A naturally occurring phenomenon known as Infrasound has recently captured the attention of many paranormal researchers and investigators. Studies have suggested a link between infrasound the sight of apparitions. As explained in a previous article, consistently high levels of electromagnetic field (EMF) can be responsible for a lot of alleged paranormal encounters, causing symptoms such as dizziness, paranoia, nausea, and the general feeling of not being alone a room. These symptoms are often easy to identify, and the cause of the high EMF can easily be found. Infrasound, however, can be harder to detect, and causes very different symptoms than those of EMF sickness.

Infrasound is generally considered to be audio-frequency energy that lies below the range of normal human hearing, typically 20Hz. Ambient infrasound within the environment is produced by both natural and man-made sources, such as traffic, distant trains, airplanes, and in nature it helps elephants find their heards from miles away. Normally, this does not affect you in any way, and you'll generally not even notice it. However, if the frequency is 20Hz or lower and is above 90 decibels, it starts to have some very interesting effects on people. Common effects caused by such exposure are:

• Feelings of paranoia

• Seeing apparitions

• Feelings of unease

A well documented case where infrasound caused the illusion of a haunting is that of an alleged haunted laboratory at Coventry University. Vic Tandy was working in the lab late one evening when out of the corner of his eye he reportedly saw a "black blob". But when he turned to look, there was nothing there. The next night while he worked in the lab, he saw the same mass again, but it again disappeared when he looked towards it. When he went back to his work, he noticed that a small piece of fencing foil that he had taped to a vice was vibrating slightly. The next day they discovered that a silent fan had been running in the lab, and was resonating at a frequency of approximately 18 Hz, the same frequency at which the human eye resonates. This caused the visual anomalies that Vic Tandy reported, and also accounted for the feelings of dread people were experiencing. Once the fan was turned off, everything went back to normal, and no one experienced anything out of the ordinary in the lab again.

So, to summarize, infrasound, like EMF, can account for a large variety of paranormal experiences, and thus should be tested in places where people claim to see apparitions, or where they experience overwhelming feelings of dread or depression. If you think infrasound may be affecting you, try turning off different devices in your home to see if they are causing the experiences. Remember, 90% of paranormal claims can be disproven, even if the answer is hard to find.
